April 12th, 2010 | by admin |Theology seminaries now provide a wide variety of programs and formats for scholars who are not intending to join full-time Christian ministry. seminary college teaching has become democratized. There are online programs, systematic theology weekend classes, and cohort-based degrees. There are new programs planned for students who will not enter orthodox professions like the pastorship upon commencement ceremony. And there are other schools and other untraditional backgrounds that permit scholars to go to theological college without having to move or to vary their lifestyles.
The organisation of contemporary theological college foundations was a direct result of Roman Catholic reforms of the Counter-Reformation after the Council of Trent which asserted on the improvement of the education of clergy through the foundation of Theology seminaries as live-in institutions under the primary control of elder clergy. Since at least the fourth century there have been Theology seminaries for the schooling of clergy.
