Trying to find an article that was in the newspaper about 4 years ago about music and its benefits to learning?
January 2nd, 2010 | by admin |My English 102 teacher told me about an article that was in the Arizona Republic about four years that he remembered reading. He said it was about a study that was done about music and benefits to learning. That students listened to music for 1/2 an hour and read a paper. Students that listened to music first had an easier time understanding the paper and greater retention of information than the students that didn’t listen to music. If anyone has any info that can help me, please let me know. Thanks!
There are many studies about the relations between music and mind, or music and body/brain.
There is the "Mozart effect"- plant’s grow better to (some) Mozart compositions, cows give more milk and enjoy better health. Death metal makes them wither.
Now, remember also how certain Rockn’Roll’s are used to induce terror during modern attacks ( The roof is burning f. ex.).
Music therapy is existing at least here in Denmark ( in US. too, I’m sure) and is recognized as especially valuable with autistics and brain-damaged. Here you have a direct connection to learning using music.
There is a whole area of New Age music intended to aid healing. Music has an ability to still the "inner dialog". This is supposed to be a requisite to all magic ( working with your will).
Talking about working with brain waves, motivation has a tremendous effect on learning. If motivated, learning increases at an incredibly rate. This is easy to check for yourself.
Finally, if music can aide the memories ( we have more than one), then we have at least a lead to understand the relationship between music ( air-waves) and brain (electro-chemical waves). Whatever waves is.
