Effective Manager, what are the most important qualites they should have?

What are the three qualities of an effective manager of people? What makes these qualities important? Do these qualities "come naturally" or can they be learned? If you have worked for or know a good manager, what makes him or her effective?

1. Make your people feel they are important and valued-because in return, they will value the importance of their work and you.
2. Build a harmonious professional and personal relationships with them-make them feel you are more than a boss to them but also a friend.
3. Respect for yourself-People will give you the kind of respect you want from them :)

    They should have respect for their employees, without them, their nothing. A manager should never be afraid to get their hands dirty, show em’ how its done, people respect someone who doesn’t just stand there shouting orders. They also need to be confident in all the decisions they make, whether mistakes or not, and be ready to face consequences if it is a mistake. These things come mostly from learning watching parents at a young age and can also be learned by schooling

    I second Man_After’s answer. Respect your employees and they will respect you back. Just make sure you know the difference between respecting them and letting them take advantage of you. Managing is alot like raising kids. Set a good example for them. Conduct yourself the way you want them to follow. Give them positive feedback when a job is well done and let them know they are appreciated. Aslo, Do not show favoritism. Same rules for everyone all the time. Hear them out but set firm limits. Make sure everyone knows what their job is.
