is it necessary to learn 3d studio Max for VFX?

Friends, I am learning these 2 apps, I am interested in VFX, titling, ads, & don’t like 3d modeling, so Is it necessary to learn 3d max, if yes then at what extents or level?
( Love to do AE vfx such in videocopilots tuts) Thank you!

I would guess only if what you are doing is involving heavily detailed 3d gfx.

    if your a fan of videocopilot like me, then you should also have some knowledge about 3d modeling and rendering. As you can see, andrew sometimes jump from after effects to 3dsmax back and forth. and how to integrate it on after effects. And if you will have the dvd of ‘the bullet’, i think, all the knowledge you need in 3D in doing VFX is there.
