What is the equations for them also?
Drop a solid object into a cylinder of water and watch how much the water rises. That is one way to measure the volume.

volume of a gas,
it has to be inside a closed container, you just find the volume of the container
volume of a liquid
it has to be inside a container, just measure the container, and then instead of using the height of the container, use how high the liquid is for the height
solid,
just measure it, nothing really more to say here

It is not stupid because you need to know how to find up the volume of different shapes,by learning they conversions or formula.
1) Cube=side^3
2) Rectangular Prism=lenght*widht*high
3) Sphere= 4/3*pi*radius^3
4) Cylinder =pi*radius^2*high
5) Cone= pi*radius^2*high/3.
