Should I finish my MA degree or go ahead and transfer to an MFA program?

I have decided that I want to be either an art director or teach visual communication/design at the college level. All of the MFA programs I’m applying to only admit for Fall semester, so I’ll have to wait until next year to start. By that time I will have half of my MA in Communication completed. Should I transfer or spend another year finishing my MA?

Transfer, for two primary reasons:

1) if your main goal may be teaching comm design, you need an MFA. The MA won’t help.

2) once you get your first masters, certain types of financial aid will be closed to you. If your real goal is an MFA, I’d rather you "spend" those particular types of aid on the MFA, rather than using them for the MA.

If you’d like, see if your new school will allow you to dual degree - MFA plus MA comm. Another option would be to complete the MFA - your priority degree - and then go back to complete the MA if you want to.
